Featherstone Rovers v Halifax Panthers Betfred Championship Round7   Sunday 5th May 2024

A bank holiday treat at the Millennium Stadium as Featherstone Rovers who are getting there took on a struggling Halifax Panthers side, could Rovers make it 3 wins in a row, or could Halifax make it tricky again for Rovers? There was a minutes applause before kickoff for Paul Taylor who sadly passed away recently.

It was played at the Millennium Stadium

After 4 minutes, McComb nearly broke through for Halifax but Rovers clung on, then Jouffret and Woodburn-Hall linked to put Saltonstall away, but ball hit floor.

After 11 minutes, Massey stopped by Davies, but then Rovers won a penalty 10metres from the line.

1st Rovers try- Wynne dived over in corner

2 minutes later, Rovers pressure counted as long looping pass from Turner fooled Saltonstall, who jammed inside which left Wynne space to break and dive over in corner, successful conversion by Hooley from touch.

After 20 minutes. Woodburn-Hall sent Saltonstall down wing but kick went all wrong and judged as knockon.

1st Halifax try- Eden in corner

After some pressure,  Fax scored as Inman went on short side and found Jouffret who threw spectacular pass wide, which fooled everyone except Eden who scooped it across unopposed in corner, successful conversion by Jouffret from touch.

2nd Rovers try-  Albert stretched over

After 34 minutes, back to back Rovers penalties punished Halifax as Albert stretched over from close range, successful conversion by Hooley.

2nd Fax try- Widdop scored

Four minutes later, Halifax back in it again as superb play by Halifax, Keyes and Widdop linked up to send Saltonstall away down wing, and kicked back inside for Widdop to score, unsuccessful conversion by Jouffret.

A really entertaining first half, some good play by both teams, Rovers just edging it, how would 2nd half go?

3rd Rovers try- Hardcastle crashed over

After 50 minutes, good start to 2nd half by Fax but Rovers scored as a overlap on right and Hardcastle stepped back inside and held off challenge to crash over, successful conversion by Hooley.

Seven minutes later, another chance for Fax as Jouffret floated a pass over top to Eden but couldn’t take it.

Just before the hour, Rovers down to 12 men as Gale got sent off for a shouldercharge, could Rovers hold on with 12 men?

Just after the hour, it was a try for Rovers as ball hit floor as Keyes tried to scoop it up, but couldn’t take it and fell into Minikin’s  hands who sent Wynne over to score in corner, successful conversion by Hooley.

With 15 minutes left, Halifax pulled one back as Keyes threw a dummy and stretched over, successful conversion by Jouffret.

After 72 minutes, after a controversial call at one end, Rovers scored as Wynne scored his hat trick, successful conversion by Hooley.

6th Rovers try- Wynne’s 4th try

Four minutes later, game over as Wynne scored his 4th try as Turnet stole it off Jouffret and raced away before finding Wynne in support who went over to score, unsuccessful conversion by Hooley.

The scoreline might be harsh on Halifax as for large periods they played really well, but Rovers were more clinical and took their chances, and its 3 wins on the spin for Rovers now.

Featherstone Rovers v Widnes Vikings Betfred Championship Round5  Sunday 21st April 2024

A third home game of the season for Featherstone and another against  a top 4 side, Widnes were unbeaten coming into this one, so could Rovers make it back to back wins, or could Widnes continue their solid start to the season?

It was played at the Millennium Stadium

1st Rovers try- Gale in corner

After 9 minutes, and a decent start by Rovers, they struck first as Turner put Minikin away superbly and Gale scored in corner, unsuccessful conversion.

2nd Feath try- England untouched

14 minutes later, England ran the line and went through untouched, successful conversion by Addy.

1st Widnes try- Roberts scored

Just before halftime, nice by Widnes as Gilmore did a superb flat pass to Roberts who flew through the gap to score, successful conversion by Gilmore.

3rd Rovers try- Hall scored

On the hooter, Rovers extended their lead as Rovers chipped over top and Hall gathered to score, successful converison by Addy.

A good first half by Rovers and they went in at halftime feeling good 3 tries to 1, could they continue 2nd half?

After 43 minutes, Day crashed over to extend Rovers lead further, successful conversion by Addy.

2nd Widnes try- Ince at corner

After 50 minutes, Owens did a cut out pass to Ince who dived in at corner, successful conversion by Gilmore.

3rd Widnes try- Owen scored under posts 

Just before the hour, Widnes back in it as Langtree he made a break and pass round corner for Owens to score under posts, Gilmore scored under posts.

4th Widnes try- Ince’s 2nd 

After 68 minutes, Widnes level after Widnes moved it through hands quick and Ince scored , successful conversion by Gilmore.

Five minutes later, Jones did a lovely pass and Wynne was over to score, successful conversion by Addy.

Featherstone Rovers v Bradford Bulls  Betfred Championship Round 3  Sunday 7th April 2024

This was the 2nd home league game of the season for Featherstone and a 3rd consecutive West Yorkshire derby for Rovers as they took on Bradford who have had a decent start to the season, could Rovers get their 2nd win of the season or would Bradford get the win?

It was played at a windy and rainy Millennium Stadium

After five minutes, first real attack and Bradford held up over line.

Two minutes later, a spiralling kick and Rovers got in and attacked but handover near touch

1st Bradford try- Carr in corner

After 9 minutes, first try went to Bradford as Bradford forced Rovers into touch and then Bradford attacked and worked wide to Carr who scored in corner, unsuccessful conversion by Lilley from touch.

On the quarter hour, a nice kick by Rovers nearly paid off then Rovers got a set near the Bradford line after a forward pass but wasted it.

2nd Bradford try- Gill scored

After 22 minutes and midway through first half, Bradford broke from a kick and then won a penalty and nearly scored, won another penalty for high tackle and on last tackle Lilley kicked and Gill pounced to score, successful conversion by Lilley,

1st Rovers try- Jones sprinted over line

Just before halftime Rovers got their first try of the game as Gorman broke and passed to Jones who sprinted to the line, successful conversion by Gorman.

Rovers scored just before halftime, but other than that a poor performance by Rovers but the wind probably played a part a little bit, could Rovers get back in it 2nd half?

After 49 minutes, first attack of 3nd half by Rovers and Turner barged over the line, unsuccessful conversion by Gorman.

Bradford penalty- Lilley converted

Three minutes later, Bradford won a penalty and decided to take the two on offer, Lilley kicked and Bradford back in front by 2.

After 56 minutes, Bradford scored their 3rd try as they broke and passed wide and Carr scored in corner, unsuccessful conversion by Lilley from touch

4th Bradford try- Butler scored

Just after the hour, Bradford forced Wacokecoke into touch, and a real chance for Bradford to extend their lead and they did as Butler scored in corner, successful conversion by Lilley.

3rd Rovers try- Jones ‘ 2nd 

Near the end of the game, a consolation for Rovers as Jones scored his 2nd after sprinting away, unsuccessful conversion by Gorman.

A bit better 2nd half by Rovers but not enough as its back to back defeats in the league, and for some reason they don’t seem as strong this year, hopefully they improve.

Featherstone Rovers v Wakefield Trinity  Betfred Challenge Cup Round 5  Sunday  10th March 2024

This was Featherstone’s first home game of the season and it came in the form of a Challenge Cup tie against rivals Wakefield Trinity, for a first competitive game against each other since 1998, it was a muddy afternoon on the pitch after all the rain we had, so that could have made it a level game, so could Featherstone progress to round 6 where the Super League clubs enter,or would Wakefield get through?

Scrappy start but 13 minutes in, Rovers forced a dropout..

Four minutes later, both Rovers and Trinity fans came together to remember a 17 year old Wakey fan who sadly passed away  with a minutes applause.

Just after the half hour in the horrible conditions Rovers worked it wide and Wynne dived over in the corner, successful conversion by Lacans.

Five minutes later, Wynne was at the double as Albert offloaded, Day got it out wide and Wynne scored, unsuccessful conversion by Lacans.

A awful first half but Rovers edged ahead, could they hold on 2nd half?

After 47 minutes, Jowitt passed to Pratt who scored, unsuccessful conversion.

Just before the hour, Jowitt found Franco who scored, unsuccessful conversion again.

Wakefield penalty- Lino converted

After 64 minutes, Lino converted a penalty for Trinity and we were all square at 10-10.

Four minutes later, Lacans went for a drop goal but Wakefield knocked it behind for a dropout.

After 80 minutes in the mud, it was all level at the end so we went to Golden Point extra time which was 5 minutes each way if needed and the first side to score a drop goal or a try won.

With seconds of the first half of extra time left, Gale intercepted and ran the length of the field to score a superb try to win the game for Rovers.

A piece of magic by Gale saw Rovers into the 6th round of the Challenge Cup, Wakefield would have got away with it had they won.

The biggest game of the season so far for Featherstone as they were 80 minutes away from the grand final on home soil, but London put Sheffield to the sword last week, so could Rovers make the playoff final again, or could London cause a huge upset?

It was played at the Millennium Stadium

1st London try- Walker scored

After six minutes, London struck first as Walker got ball near line and scored to left of sticks, successful conversion by Norman.

Three minutes later, first Rovers attack but couldn’t score, then had another go but couldn’t score

2nd London try or was it – Whare grounded it

After a quarter of a hour, a 2nd London try as a kick looked too deep and too long but Whare got it down and London thought they’d scored a 2nd try, went to video ref and he said try, successful conversion by Norman.

After 21 minutes, Rovers won a penalty and got near the line, then offloaded for no reason.

1st Feath try- Hankinson scored

Five minutes later, Rovers back into the semi final as they played it well and kicked through and Hankinson scored a try to taker him over 1,000 career points,went to video ref but he said try and superb conversion from touch by Kheirallah.

Just before half hour, Rovers won a penalty and on last tackle, they tried to score in corner but couldn’t. They then forced a London knockon but couldn’t make most of it.

After 33 minutes, good try by Rovers as they won a penalty and on 2nd tackle,Leilua barged his way over with pace to score in corner, successful conversion by Kheirallah and Rovers were level.

3rd London try- Walker’s 2nd 

Just before halftime, London went back in front as Walker scored under sticks, successful conversion by Norman.

London started well then Rovers got themselves back in it, only to conceded on stroke of half-time, the biggest 40 minutes of the season were coming up.

After 49 minutes, Day sinbinned for Rovers for a tip tackle.

Three minutes later, London scored their 4thtry as Rovers knocked on and London played it well and Macani scored in corner, successful conversion by Norman to give London a 12 point lead again.

On the hour,Raiwalui scored for London but another easy try for them, successful conversion by London, the game was heading south for Rovers .

 With ten minutes left, all of a sudden Rovers started throwing the ball around and Briscoe scored in corner, successful conversion by Kheirallah.

Too little too late for Rovers but London deserved the win, as it looked like they wanted it more than Rovers, and they take their place in the final against Toulouse next weekend, for Rovers they won the shield but ultimately its another failure of a season for Rovers.

The final game of the regular season for Featherstone  Rovers who would lift the League Leaders shield at the end of the game, Widnes still had an outside chance of making the playoffs, and it was James Lockwood’s final league game for Rovers before retiring, so could Rovers finish the league season with a 25th win or would Widnes inflict just a 3rd defeat of the season?

After only three minutes, Rovers scored first through Lacans, after a Leilua break , successful conversion by Kheirallah.

Midway through the first half, Hall scored in the corner, superb conversion by Kheirallah.

After 24 minutes, Ince raced down right and offloaded to Lyons who scored in corner, successful conversion by Dixon.

Just after the half hour, Rovers scored a 3rd try as Moors got a short ball by Wildie and barged over, successful conversion by Kheirallah.

A topsy turvy first half which Rovers edged 4 tries to 2, could they continue 2nd half? At halftime, the womens team lifted their League leaders Shield as they got promoted to Womens Super League group 1.

A domination job 2nd half for Rovers as they scored 38 unanswered point sin the 2nd half, and they finish the league season with 25 wins out of 27. They lifted the League Leaders shield at the end of the game.

They head into the playoffs now but have a week off in the 1st week and don’t know yet who they’ll play in the semi final.

It was Retro Round for this Championship clash between 1st placed Featherstone Rovers and joint 2nd Batley Bulldogs, so fans wore their old shirts for the game, Batley came into this on the back of getting to the 1895 Cup final, but Rovers have still only lost once this season, so how would this big game go?

It was also James Lockwood’s 250th career appearance.

After four minutes, both attacking sets early doors for Rovers ended on the Batley line but no score yet.

Two minutes later, Lockwood’s determined run and offload allowed Taylor to burst through, successful conversion by Hankinson.

After 18 minutes, Rovers had a 2nd as Wildie went on his own and scored under the sticks, successful conversion by Hankinson and 150th try for Rovers as a team this season.

1st Batley try- McGowan scored

Four minutes before halftime, Hooley passed down the line to McGowan who beat Rovers winger to score, unsuccessful conversion by Hooley.

After 46 minutes, Cozza offloaded to Smith to score his 1st try of 2023 for Rovers having scored three in his previous spell, successful conversion by Hankinson.

After 54 minutes, Hau threw defence off balance to power through a gap to score his 6th try in 7 career games, successful conversion by Hankinson.

Just after the hour, Batley had their 2nd try as they ran the ball on the last, went down short side and quick hands allowed Morton to score in the corner, unsuccessful conversion by Hooley.

It was the first home game for 3 weeks for Rovers against a Swinton side who had won three of their last five coming into this one, so could Rovers keep their lead at the top or would Swinton continue their decent run?

Five minutes later, Rovers thought they’d scored after a good kick to corner, but ref ruled it out.

After 23 minutes, Rovers broke through and Hau caught a pass and scored in front of sticks, successful conversion by Kheirallah.

Just before the half hour, Swinton had a full set near Rovers line but couldn’t score.

2nd Rovers try- Kheirallah scored

On the half hour, a beautiful Rovers try as Astley broke and then kicked for Kheirallah who scored under sticks, successful converison by Kheirallah.

Rovers had too much class in the 2nd half as they blew Swinton away, and its another win for Rovers and they’ve still got Dane Chisholm to come into the fold at some point as they resigned him from Keighley.

The biggest game of the season so far as unbeaten Featherstone Rovers took on Toulouse Olympique, on a Saturday teatime clash , so could Rovers keep their unbeaten run going or would they lose for 1st time this season?

1st Toulouse try- Armitage scored

After 11 minutes, Armitage found space on left wing to score for Toulouse, Successful conversion by Shorrocks.

1st Rovers try- Hall good try

At just past the midway point of the first half, Rovers hit back as Hall did a lovely dink and chased his own kick to score, unsuccessful conversion by Hall.

2nd Toulouse try- Lima scored

Just before the half hour, Lima scored for Toulouse, successful conversion by Shorrocks.

2nd Rovers try- Briscoe in the corner

Just before halftime, Rovers worked it wide and Briscoe scored in the corner, unsuccessful conversion by Hall.

It was an intriguing contest on the cards as both teams scored two tries each, the difference was Rovers didn’t convert either of their tries, could they improve on that 2nd half?

3rd Toulouse try- Peyroux scored

After 44 minutes, Peyroux chased a grubber on the last play and scored, successful conversion by Shorrocks.

3rd Rovers try- Davies scored

Four minutes later, Rovers responded again as Davies scored, successful conversion by Hall.

4th Feath try- Hankinson powered over

After 55 minutes, Hankinson received ball and powered over the line to make it a level game, unsuccessful conversion by Hall.

4th Toulouse try- Marcon in the corner

Just after the hour, Toulouse back in front as Marcon scored in the corner, successful conversion by Shorrocks.

5th Toulouse try- Peyroux’s 2nd try

Five minutes later, Peyroux ran through middle and scored his 2nd try of the game, successful conversion by Shorrocks.

6th Toulouse try- Armitage scored

After 72 minutes, Toulouse wrapped up the win as Armitage ran in for another try, successful conversion by Shorrocks.

For a while Rovers got level but the last quarter killed them as that’s when Toulouse scored three unanswered tries and it means Rovers lost for the first time this season in the league.

They are still top and clear at the top.
