Leeds United v Sunderland  Sky Bet Championship Tuesday 9th April 2024

The first of the final 4 games in the Championship for Leeds United and anything could happen, they could still get top two or have to go through the playoffs.

They welcomed a out of form Sunderland so would this be a perfect opportunity for Leeds to get a few goals, and maybe go into top two before Ipswich played on Wednesday.

It was played at an  atmospheric  Elland Road

After 8 minutes, James’  right footed shot from right side of box blocked.

Just before quarter hour, first Sunderland chance as Clarke’s header from centre of box high and wide to left.

Four minutes later, Rutter’s right footed shot outside box close, but missed to left.

Just after the half hour, Summerville’s right footed shot from left side of box blocked.

After 33 minutes, Rigg’s right footed shot outside box too high.

Two minutes later, Clarke’s left footed shot from difficult angle on left saved in centre of goal.

After 38 minutes, Clarke’s right footed shot from outside box saved in centre of goal.

Just before halftime, Bamford’s right footed shot from left side of box high and wide to right.

Halftime score: Leeds United 0-0 Sunderland

A poor performance by Leeds first half, not much creativity and Sunderland had couple of half chances, could Leeds improve 2nd half?

After 55 minutes, Rutter’s right footed shot from centre of box blocked, then a minute later, James right footed shot outside box missed to left.

After 68 minutes, Rutter’s left footed shot from outside box  was close but missed to right.

Three minutes later, Roberts’ left  footed shot outside box saved bottom left.

After 75 minutes, Ampadu’s right footed shot from outside box missed to left. A minute later, Rodon’s header from centre of box saved in centre of goal.

After 79 minutes, Hume’s right footed shot from long range too high.

In 90th minute, Gnonto’s left footed shot outside box blocked. A minute later, Rodon’s header from centre of box just too high.

Fulltime score: Leeds United 0-0 Sunderland

A bit better by Leeds in 2nd half but not too much creativity still, and Sunderland were happy with a point, so a frustrating night.

Leeds went 2nd on 87 points
